What is Goal-Directed Persistence?
Goal-Directed persistence is the ability to navigate through towards a goal that you set. These goals can be big or small. There are two main aspects of goal-directed persistence: 1) maintaining the stamina to move towards a goal, and 2) utilizing adaptive and problem solving skills to adjust strategies in changing situations to persevere through completion.
What do Goal-Directed Persistence challenges look like?
- Giving up on a task or goal
- Not setting goals for yourself
- Being reactive instead of proactive
- A lack of motivation
- Feeling a lack of control over your life
- Setting unrealistic goals
What are some strategies to help with Goal-Directed Persistence?
- Establishing and breaking down appropriate goals
- Creating incentives and rewards for the completion of goals
- Clearly defining goals and why you are motivated to complete them
- Using short term achievable goals (STAG) and Clear, Appropriate, Numerical, Doable, and Obstacles considered goals(CANDO)
