Julia has fourteen years of experience as a teacher, working in both general and special education. She taught for four years in Washington, D.C., and two years in Brooklyn, NY, in charter schools before earning her master’s in teaching students with disabilities from Teachers College. After six years as a special education teacher and several years teaching a course at the college level, she returned to D.C. for two more years of teaching. Currently, she specializes in integrating executive function (EF) skills into academic sessions, having earned an advanced certificate in EF support. Julia is also trained in reading and math interventions for children and adults with dyslexia.
Her expertise includes working with students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and other learning disabilities. Julia has gained knowledge of trauma-informed practices and inclusive education, guiding students through the middle school application process and teaching study skills. She has coached students in areas such as metacognition, social skills, and emotional regulation, as well as supporting task initiation and completion. Julia has also worked with college students and student teachers struggling with anxiety and procrastination, coaching them on using accommodations and workplace skills. Additionally, she has taught and supported adults and students at the college and graduate level with organization, writing, and assignment completion.
Known for her compassion and creativity, Julia builds strong connections with her students and approaches challenges with empathy. She is creative and excels at breaking down complex tasks into manageable steps, isolating skills, and finding unique strategies to solve areas of struggle. She is warm and helps others build confidence while maintaining high expectations for their success.
